Into the Lucanverse

Hello and welcome to my FFXIV WoL intro carrd.All characters listed exist in a headcanon that I’m sharing with my wife and her OC’s centered around dual Warriors of Light, Lucan and Apple/Melorabette.*Note, most of the lore on this page will be mostly Lucan/Ko’shari-centric.

Lucan Artorian

A reformed thief turned wandering minstrel, gifted marksman, Scion of the Seventh Dawn, and Warrior of Light.

Backstory

Abandoned by his father and taken as a ward of Halvor, a charismatic and mysterious pirate captain after the death of his mother, Lucan spent his teenage years sailing the high seas while serving as both a cook and a deckhand in addition to being trained to fight.After four years in Halvor’s service, Lucan received a mysterious vision revealing that Halvor was actually a former partner of his mother and had orchestrated her death as revenge for spurned affection. In a blind rage, Lucan made an unsuccessful attempt on Halvor’s life that forced Lucan to kill nearly the entire crew after they were ordered to kill him. Lucan, Halvor and any other survivors were then thrown overboard in the midst of a raging storm.Washing ashore near the port city of Limsa Lominsa, Lucan’s new lease on life led him into a life of petty crime and debauchery alongside his first love, Ko’shari, a Miqo’te thief, that eventually resulted in his imprisonment and conscription into the Maelstrom during the Battle of Carteneau.Released on probation for his service during the battle, Lucan chooses to distance himself from the life he’s led following his mother’s death and begins traveling from town to town as both a wandering minstrel and helping hand to those in need under his mother’s old alias “The Fox”.

A Realm Reborn

Arriving in Gridania five years after the battle of Cartenau, Lucan joins the Archers Guild hoping to earn a more stable income as an adventurer. Quickly making a name for himself as the star recruit of the Archer’s Guild as well as his bawdy performances at the Carline Canopy, Lucan is dispatched to the Twelveswood to help investigate suspicious Ixal activity.Paired with Melorabette “Apple” Lenoir, a stoic and peculiarly named senior member of the Conjurer’s guild, Lucan proves his worth on the battlefield with his unnaturally proficient aim and unorthodox fighting style, much to Apple’s chagrin. In the ensuing conflict with a mysterious masked mage, Lucan’s hubris proves to be his undoing when he is grievously wounded due to a careless mistake. Against the advice of Yda and Papalymo, Apple chooses to heal Lucan despite the inherent risk to her own wellbeing with the severity of his injuries and her own exhaustion.Feeling an immense sense of gratitude, Lucan swears himself into Apple’s service and offers to be her travel guide when she is chosen as an envoy of Gridania to the other city states of the Eorzean Alliance.

Gaining notoriety throughout their travels for their feats of heroism, Lucan and Apple are eventually contacted by members of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, an anonymous apolitical peacekeeping organization, about enlisting in their order.While Apple’s application is unanimously accepted, several members express disapproval of Lucan’s reputation and criminal record. Upon the request of both Apple and Thancred, a member of the Scions who claims to have a similar background to Lucan, Lucan is also granted provisional membership to the Scions.

Fun Facts

• Lucan’s name originally started as a Persona 5 joke (Lucan Cooljoker) since my fiancé’s main character had a ridiculous name, but I eventually decided against it. I liked the name Lucan so I decided to keep it. Little did I know that it’s actually an Italian name that means “light” 🤯• Artorian is a reference to Artorias from the original Dark Souls. A noble hero who is overwhelmed by a dark force he made a covenant with.

Ko'shari Loha

A reckless and chaotic thief turned mercenary, Lucan’s former partner in crime, toxic first love and occasional ally.

Backstory

Born to a single mother in Ala Mhigo, Ko'shari quickly earned a reputation in her neighborhood for both her mischievous nature and uncommon beauty. At the age of 17, Ko’shari was sold by her mother into an arranged marriage to the young nuhn of a mysterious and reclusive Miqo'te tribe based in the outskirts of Gyr Abania. Forced to suffer many indignities over the course of a year, Ko’shari escaped her captors by murdering her husband and fleeing home to Ala Mhigo.Confronting her mother upon returning home, Ko'shari was met with fear and hostility as her mother feared retribution from the tribe. Ko'shari was forced to kill her mother in self defense in the ensuing struggle. Detained and beaten by the local guards as a matricide, Ko'shari managed to escape captivity once again and fled Ala Mhigo. Hoping to put as much distance between herself and any possible pursuers, Ko'shari traveled west until she arrived in the port city of Lima Lominsa.

Surviving in Limsa Lominsa as a pickpocket, Ko’shari frequently targeted a young Hyur named Lucan which led into a recurring cat and mouse chase that ended with the two becoming lovers. Upon learning of Lucan’s attempted suicide Ko’shari encouraged Lucan to live like there is no tomorrow and recruited him as her partner.Ranging from simple pickpocketing to more elaborate heists, the two would become infamous in both Limsa Lominsa and Ul’dah for their crime spree. Their relationship would often turn sour due to Ko’shari’s frequent infidelity and Lucan’s altruistic tendencies clashing with their high risk lifestyle. Despite this, the two would always find their way back to each other due to a shared belief that they are the only ones who could truly love the other. Their life together came to an end when Ko’shari betrayed Lucan and sold him out to the Maelstrom in exchange for passage to an unknown destination.

Stormblood

Lucan & Ko'shari's paths unexpectedly cross eight years later when Lucan travels to Kugane with the Scions where she is revealed to have been living and working as a mercenary.

• Renadora is named in honor of Lucan’s mother, Rena the Fox.• Her name is also a portmanteau of renard doré (French for Golden Fox) which combines Lucan’s alias “The Fox” and the origin of Applesauce’s birth name Melorabette (golden apple).
